CARES PROGRAM
The increased complexity of Vietnamese trafficking and smuggling has taken us to various transit and destination countries where Vietnamese potential victims of trafficking have passed through. Building on our knowledge and experience, especially upon the release of our “Precarious Journeys” research report in 2019, our CaRes – or “Capacity Building for Responders” – Program helps increase the knowledge and capacity of frontline responders in transit and destination countries in working with and supporting Vietnamese vulnerable migrants, victims of trafficking, and potential victims of trafficking through:
- Promoting a culturally sensitive and empathetic victim-centered approach toward migrants.
- Developing a narrative to promote cooperation from migrants & reduce exploitation risk.
- Increasing collaboration among responders in destination and transit countries.
WHAT WE DO
- Cultural Competency Training (CTRA): Self-paced online courses and online/in-person foundational and advanced training sessions for responders to help build trust with migrants and victims of trafficking.
- CaRes Discussion Forum: Access resources and discussion on topics related to Vietnamese migrants to Europe and Asia.
- Consultation & Support Line: Our culturally fluent mediators can help facilitate conversations with Vietnamese migrants and advise European & Asian responders and organizations.
- Training materials/tools: Distribute resource manuals covering topics such as cultural and trafficking contexts, interview techniques, and legal terms in Vietnamese and the local language.
